The Marine Sciences Station of Toralla (ECIMAT), is a modular, flexible and functional building available to the academic community as well as to other public or private organizations. The installations are suitable for work with seawater and marine cultures at experimental and pilot plant scale.
ECIMAT counts with three units:
- Marine Cultures
The Station provides large volumes of seawater of different qualities (natural, and heated or cooled micro-filtered) and dechlorinated freshwater. It also has an area of auxiliary cultures such as phytoplankton (in the algae room), rotifers and brine shrimp (in the zooplankton room), and larvae culture.
- Marine Environments
Infrastructure for seawater, plankton and benthos sampling is available, as well as image analysis equipment.
- Underwater Activities
The Station has an area with all the necessary equipment for the practice of underwater activities, such a storage room with diving equipment, access to the sea by a dock and an inflatable boat.
